Back at the start of 2022 Scot JCB teamed up with Tom Grant Plant to try and raise £10,000 for Breast Cancer Now. Tom is known for his pink lorries and if you have ever seen a pink bucket or attachment on site around Scotland you can almost guarantee it is his. But this year he took it one step further and had his brand new JCB 245XR sprayed hot pink by our very own Kenny Coates. The machine was showcased on our Scot JCB stand at ScotPlant 2022 and attracted a lot of attention and many donations. Tom’s Operator Fiona Scott even had it at her wedding in June this year!

After Tom’s initial donation of £5k and donations from other supporters including Fiona’s wonderful wedding guests we looked to see how we could raise the rest, that’s where Lucy and Mo came in. Both are breast cancer survivors and they wanted to do what they could to smash the £10k target.

Morag Macdonald (Mo), Director’s PA was diagnosed with breast cancer in June this year after finding a lump and going to get it checked. Mo had a lumpectomy and radiotherapy and was given the all clear in August. “It’s obviously a really scary time, when you get diagnosed, but the best thing you can do if you find any change in your breasts is get it checked, the earlier they catch it, the easier it is to treat” said Mo. Mo has always loved working out and is never one to shy away from a challenge so only SIX WEEKS after her lumpectomy Mo was on her spin bike taking part in a THREE-HOUR Spin-a-thon! Mo raised an amazing £1753.

Lucy Mullin, Marketing Manager realised that the half marathon she signed up for during Covid was going ahead in 2022 so jumped into training and on the 2nd of October ran the Great Scottish Run’s 13.1 miles through Glasgow. Lucy was diagnosed with the same type of breast cancer as Mo the previous year. “I’m really proud that I finished, this time last year I was still knackered from treatment and getting used to medication, it’s great to feel like I’m getting back to myself.” Lucy raised £1923 from her run.

To round off our fundraising we wanted to do something fun! On 28th October we held a Wear It Pink day in our Glasgow depot where we decorated the depot, everyone wore pink, we had a bake sale and prizes. Julie Wright (receptionist) who is another breast cancer survivor won best outfit and Lucy won best bake. On the day we raised £555 which Scot JCB very generously doubled to £1110.

In total the Scot JCB Group and Tom Grant Plant have raised £11,467.25 for Breast Cancer Now. Lucy added,  “Thanks so much to everyone who has helped and supported this from the start including all the staff involved here at Scots and all of our friends and family who helped us raise this amazing total. Finally, thanks to Tom, as he would say “it started as a bit of a laugh” but the amount of money we have all raised is really something to be proud of.”
